The match lasted for 2 hours 18 minutes and was won by the 28-years-old Moscowite No. 39 in the WTA rankings 4:6, 6:4, 6:3. Kate won 8 break points our of 19 loosing 6 games on her serve.

It was a curious match. In each set, Makarova was leading with two games won on her opponent's serve, but then Vinci got to break back. However, in the second and third set, Ekaterina snatched her opportunity and defeated her opponents from Top 10.
